I'll endeavour to insert an incredibly witty, profound and inspirational statement here at later date.
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Well, they are when you manage to put together a super talented team of people that are driven to creating something a little bit special.
Teaming up with freelance Art Director Guillermo Carjaval we shot 3 individuals listening to their favourite genres of music through their Sony MBR-XB400 Headphones. Pam Rana (pink) threw down some shapes to her favourite dance music, Jan Sudworth (green) moved terrifying passionately to some of his favourite Europop - and Jonathan Dardaganis flipped out to some pretty angry Rock music.
Average day really.
It was was of the most fun shoots I’ve ever worked on and we shared a lot of laughs over the course of the day. Good times.
Once the shoot was completed I met with Christian Scallan.
Christian is a great bloke and just happens to be an Audio Engineering Lecturer at NMIT University here in Melbourne - plus he is the the owner of one of Melbourne’s most prestigious recording studios “The Soft Centre”.
Christian put together a series of waveforms that represented each genre of music that was being listened to in each image. Realistically not many people will recognise that the waveforms are infact truely representative of each music genre, but advertising is all about the little details.
With the images shot and the soundwaves created it was time to go and visit one of Australia’s best Retouchers - Richard Dion Wilson @ Hell Studios.
Richard took the soundwaves provided by Christian and used Cinema 4D to create a perfectly replicated version of the actual headphone cable in 3D in the shape of the appropiate sound wave.
Its crazy how much detail he added and the accuracy within which he made the cable. With the exact same number of ribs and proportions as the real cable Richard was able to manipulate the headphone cable to fly out through air in the shape of the sound wave.
After a lot of time and effort by all involved we finally came out on top -and the images look great.
Huge thanks go out to everyone involved in the project, but extra special thanks go out to Art Director Guillermo Carjaval and Richard Dion Wilson at Hell Studios for taking the time to make these images what they are today.
